Not Without Commitment

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’ Job.31:1

Job was so committed to purity that he ‘made a covenant with [his] eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’. Even though Jesus had not physically walked the earth at that time, Job knew that the issue of purity goes beyond actually sleeping with a woman. Job did not need anyone to tell him that just by looking lustfully at a woman he has committed adultery. When you walk with God, you know these things. Pornography is even far off but they did not have pornography in those says. It was in the Middle East so the women were even covering themselves. Until you commit to purity nothing can happen. I can trace the milestones in my relationship with God to my different commitments to purity. I have had different ones as I grew with God. But there was one commitment I undertook that afterwards I knew that I had taken a huge step. Men are seduced by sight and sound while women are seduced by power [financial, emotional, mental, political power, or the most powerful one, spiritual power]. One of the challenges of being a leader in any form is seduction. My wife and I trusted God for the fruit of the womb for eight years. In my second year of marriage a lady came to me and said that if not that my wife is her friend she would like to have a baby for me. You want to know what I did, I took God’s advice and I ran away. So when I got to a program and the host Pastor challenged us to a depth of purity I had never before undertaken, I immediately responded to the call. It was when I had finished praying that I realized that some of the other Pastors beside me did not respond to the call because they were all looking at the host Pastor like this man must be joking. I committed to that depth of purity with all my heart and that day I became free totally. After all what is the point of doing all this work and getting before God and hear Him say ‘I know ye not’. My point is this – nothing significant happens in your walk with God outside commitment, especially commitment to purity. Everything really is about purity with God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, examine my heart and purge me of every impurity. Lead me along Your paths of righteousness and deepen my love for You, in Jesus Name.
