Loose The Cracked Cisterns
‘For my people have done two evil things: they have abandoned me- the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all’ Jer.2:13.
God in the above scripture is referring to His own children, those who He has marked as His; those who He sent His Son to die for and who He has given up nations for. Yet these same people have hurt Him by doing two evil things – left Him, the fountain of living waters. And as if that is not bad enough, they have also created their own source of me time. Some people stand in front of their mirror and worship the idol in the mirror for two to three hours. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against your choice to take care of yourself but just don’t take it over board. One of the ladies I used to disciple came to me and said she knows that she is saved but that she is carnal. That was the first time I had ever heard a Christian admit to carnality because most Christians try to behave as if they are spiritual. She was crying out for help. So we began to talk and somehow it must be the Holy Spirit, I proposed we chronicle her typical Sunday morning before she goes to church, how long do you spend praying? She said maybe two minutes. I thought well that might not be too bad because she will still go to church to pray and will probably go back home to spend some time with God. Then I asked her how long she spends getting dressed and she said about two to three hours. And her defense was that I would not understand because I am a man but I have a sister and a mother. So I probed further and she said it is difficult to find something to wear. She has to try out different outfits with different hats, shoes, and bags to get the right match. What do you expect will be foremost on her mind when she is in church? The god she saw in the mirror and she would want to ensure that everyone can see it too. We need to abandon these cisterns that cannot hold water that we have put up as substitutes for God. For her the answer is simple, a swap– spend the two hours with God and ten minutes dressing and she will see a significant difference in her spiritual life.
Prayer [song]: I have no power of my own, I have no power of my own. Holy Spirit, I look up to You help me, I have no power of my own. Amen!
