Center of Gravity

And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brother and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matt.25:40

Jesus said to the people on the left ‘I was sick you did not visit me, I was hungry you did not feed me… depart from me you that work iniquity’ [read Matt.25:41-46]. In other words, Jesus was saying these people do not do righteousness. ‘Then they will reply, Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you? And he will answer, I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sister, you were refusing to help meMatt.25:44-45. Again, this points to the fact that at the center of righteousness is God and without God there can really be no righteousness. In fact, Jesus is our righteousness. So when He says blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled, you can actually say blessed are they that hunger and thirst for Jesus. This challenge of trying to fill the void in our lives with strange things baffles God particularly because God has made it clear to a lot of us that it is not the way to go. ‘Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, [God is saying] you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find lifeIsa.55:2-3. Why spend your money buying a new toy in an attempt to fill this vacuum, God wants you to come to Him and you will find life. Our attempt to fill our lives with everything but God really shocks heaven. ‘The heavens are shocked at such a thing and shrink back in horror and dismay, says the Lord; For my people have done two evil things: they have abandoned me- the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at allJer.2:12-13. God is not talking about people that don’t know Him. He is referring to His people, those who have been exposed to the Word, people that know what it is to have quiet-time, people that have been taught in the art of prayer, and people that know how to worship. What cisterns have you made for yourself?

Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace not to waste the very breath that You have given me seeking anything or anyone else but You. Rid me of every cracked cistern that I have dug for myself, in Jesus Name.
