Deep Dive

Philippians 3:¹ “Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.” (NIV, emphasis added).

Over the next few days, we are going to, by the grace of God, distil things further and trust that God will give us understanding in the Name of Jesus. Like Paul would say in Philippians 3:¹ “…To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.” (KJV). So, going over the Word of God for us is safe. Again, we are going to be expounding on the things we have been discussing in the past few days. The inserted image caught my attention because we have been talking about rain, land, seeds, and farming. The question on the graphic reads, “A farmer can plough a field in sixty minutes. Another farmer can plough the same field in thirty minutes. If both farmers started doing it at the same time, how long would it take the farmers to do it together? There are several ways to think about it.

For instance, the mathematician would say this is a simple proportion problem (ratios). If one farmer took sixty minutes, another took thirty minutes, it means that in one hour, they would have ploughed one and a half fields. In two hours, these farmers would have ploughed three fields. So, both of them working together would plough one field in two over three hours, and that equals forty minutes. The linguist, on the other hand, would say the question did not say that they ploughed the same farm; it just said, How long will it take for them to do it. Do what? So, the linguist will argue that it is undetermined. The liberal who seeks to be politically correct would tell us that just by looking at the pictures, we are assuming the genders of the farmers. The farmers could be binary or non-binary, or they could be female. Wearing a hat doesn’t make you a man; in fact, they could be transgender. Therefore, there can’t be a solution.

Another person says that two men coming together to work a farm means their wives were present, and they brought the children. So, they spent more than forty minutes. The spiritual person says, based on scriptures, two will put ten thousand to flight. So, they will get it done faster than forty minutes. And we see that just to till the land, there is a lot of argument because

every group believes they are right. Where are we going with this? Whether it is going to take forty minutes or two hours, just work the land and stop arguing; that is the bottom line.

Prayer:  Father, help me cut out distractions, focus, and till my land, in Jesus Name. Amen!
