Just A Smile

‘Good-tempered leaders invigorate lives; they’re like spring rain and sunshine’ Prov.16:15 [MSG]

Another invaluable thing we can give this season is a smile. You can give a smile to your neighbor. Try it out and see how much warmth it brings to your relationship. Some of us see our neighbors while driving out of our houses but we just keep a straight face. It does not cost you anything to give them a smile. They say it is more difficult to frown than to smile because the face uses a lot more muscles to frown than to smile. God wants us to be radiant. You cannot frown and be radiant at the same time. The gospel is the Good News. When you are a recipient of good news it automatically makes you a happy person. While I was in the northern part of Nigeria, I had the opportunity to share the Word at a meeting. After the meeting a very serious looking man walked up to me and said, ‘young man I can see that you have some knowledge of scripture and your delivery was not bad. But how can you share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and be smiling? Don’t you know the severity of the gospel?’ I almost laughed. It is the gospel –good news. Good news is supposed to make you smile. The reason why a lot of us cannot witness is because our consistent frowning has already put off people who need to know about Jesus even before they hear us talk about Jesus. Some people erroneously think that there is no joy in following Jesus because most Christians wear a serious look. They subconsciously tie Christianity to a life void of fun and laughter and so they have their guards up against any witness. Meanwhile when you consistently laugh people want to know the secret of your joy, which creates an open door for the gospel to spread. A frown is not a good witness; you can give a smile to everyone and it would cost you nothing. As Christians we ought to be the ones wearing a constant smile especially since we have the joy of the Lord in us. Who are you putting off coming to Jesus because of your countenance? People will first of all see you before they hear you. You have to change that this season by wearing God’s love on your face. Smile!

Prayer: Father, I submit my emotions to Your Spirit. Help me wear Your love on my face this season and impact lives for Jesus, in Jesus Name.
