Timing
‘For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven’ Ecc.3:1.
I learnt a three-pronged strategy for resting from Rick Warren and I will share it with you again today. I have used it for years and it is so effective. You deflect daily, you withdraw weekly, and you abandon annually. Deflecting daily simply means every day there are things I do that are just mundane. It could be a wrestling match with my wife; we are not fighting but just tumbling around. Or ‘I touch you last’ [Tag you’re it] game; do you play that with your wife? Play a game with your wife; you will discover she always wins. Do something that in the process, you are letting your mind loose. Some of us play games, some of us just jog, some read books, and some watch the television. Withdraw weekly; you should have a weekly time of thinking. Abandon annually; I abandon a couple of times annually, I just go off to kick stones somewhere and just think. Like I said, it is a strategy that has worked for me. You may adopt it or adjust it in whatever way that works for you; but have a strategy.
The second thing you need to know about dreams is you need to learn how to serve the dreams of others. This is very powerful. Unfortunately, we have a generation that erroneously thinks they have their own dreams so they cannot serve the dreams of others. People do not even understand how these things work and that is why people are frustrated and miserable. You need to learn to serve the dreams of others. Joseph learnt the hard way. Propagating his own dreams landed him in prison but helping others fulfill their dreams, landed him in the palace. When he was propagating his own dreams, it landed him in prison. But when he dedicated himself to helping others fulfill their dreams, it landed him in the palace. So powerful! I went to pray for someone in church that just bought or built a new house. As I was leaving we were talking about work and fulfillment. And I said to him that this is the height of my fulfillment. He said, ‘I don’t understand, but this is my house?’ I said to him, ‘Exactly! When you fulfill your destiny – possess your land, I have fulfilled my destiny – I have possessed my land’. The fulfillment of my destiny is when you fulfill your destiny.
Prayer: Father, help me discern Your timing for my dreams; to discern the time to serve the dreams of others and let You bring my dreams to fruition, in Jesus Name.
