Sheep Or Goat?

“Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning…” 1Jn.3:7-8 [emphasis added].

God knew that there would be a lot of deception about this subject, which is why the Bible says, don’t let anyone deceive you about this… But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil. The key there is, keep on sinning. Do Christians sin? Of course they do; but they should not keep on sinning otherwise, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Every work of the devil in your life will be totally destroyed, in Jesus Name. “Those who have been born into God’s family, do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God” 1Jn.3:9 [emphasis added]. So won’t you be uncomfortable sinning? It is because there is something in you that not only rejects sin, but as you yield yourself to God, it will empower you to live above sin. It is amazing how clear the Word of God is and in black and white too. I don’t know where the confusion is coming from. “So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil…” 1Jn.3:10. This is the differentiating factor between the sheep and the goat [Matt.25:31-46]. He said to the sheep, enter into my right hand and into the joy of your Lord, right? He said to the goat go to the left hand. So what is the differentiating factor? Depart from Me you workers of iniquity. But the goat said, we healed, cast out devils, preached the gospel in Your Name, and we built churches for You, Jesus. But Jesus said, I don’t know you! I am praying that you will hear well done and not I don’t know you.

Am I saying that it is impossible to sin once you are a Christian? No, but there is a life in you that is able to empower you to live above sin. I did my National Youth Service Corps in the Northern part of Nigeria. That place has a way of calming and slowing you down, unlike Lagos where everyone seems to be in a hurry. It did that for me and in one of such calm observant moments, while I was watching, a car passed and splashed mud on some sheep. Guess what they did? The sheep went to a wall and rubbed their fur against it until they got rid of the mud, because something in the sheep made it uncomfortable with the mud. On the other side, there were pigs comfortably rolling and basking in a pond of mud. That is the difference. Mud can happen to anyone, pigs and goats enjoy and continue in the mud but sheep will not rest until they get rid of the mud. Which one are you?

Prayer: Father, let Your life in me create a state of restlessness in every area of my life where I have grown comfortable with sin, until it is completely dealt with, in Jesus Name.
