Only One

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong” Prov.18:10 [AMP]

God cannot share the throne of your heart with another god. It has to be God and God alone. The Philistines took the Ark of Covenant of God to the shrine of dagon, their god. What do you think happened? By morning Dagon had bowed down, fallen flat on his face. Why? because there can only be one God. They obviously believed that dagon was a strong god after all, this is the god their fathers had worshipped for ages. So they put him back up and by the time they got back the next morning, dagon had lost his hands and his legs. He was still bowed down before the ark of God. There can only be one; Jesus said, you cannot serve God and mammon. Your heart’s pursuit cannot be after God on one hand and after something else. Only one will reign.

As long as there are multiple gods, the altar you set up to the Living God becomes an altar to an unknown God. So like the people of Athens, some of us also have an altar unto God but an unknown God. You have raised an altar to Him but He is not known to you. Like Joab [Please read 1 Kings 2:28–33], we run to His altar when we are in trouble and grab the horns of His altar and we say we would rather die there. But the truth remains that it is one thing to run to the altar of God, it is another thing to know the God of the altar. It is one thing to run to the altar of God when we think we need God, when we need His help, but it is another thing to know the God of the altar. I am praying that God, the God of the altar will reveal Himself to you, in Jesus Name. It is not enough to just run to the altar of God and grab the horn. The Word of the Lord says, the name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous run into and are safe. This means the unrighteous run into it and they are unsafe. Joab had no regard for God. Even though his boss David was a man after God’s heart, Joab was more interested in accomplishments. In the whole of scripture, there was no time that Joab had a personal relationship with the God of Israel. He was a general and he had things his way but when trouble came, Joab ran and held the horn of the altar of God but the altar did not speak for him; the altar did not help him. The reason a lot of people appear to be running to the altar, grabbing the altar, and nothing is happening, is because of their heart.

Prayer [song]: Create in me a clean heart, O God. And renew a right spirit within me (2x). Cast me not away from Your Presence, O Lord. And take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me, the joy of my salvation and renew a right spirit within me. Amen!
