Test of Affection

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” Luke 12:34

It is important to mention that money as we have referenced in days past is symbolic of everything we own. And by everything we own we mean our treasure, our time, and our talent [Everything we own = Treasure + Time + Talent]. However, our focus is going to be on treasure because we use our time and talent to get treasure. Everything we own is a test; a test of our Affection. God wants to know if you love Him. It is a test our Devotion. God wants to see if you are devoted to Him. It is a test your Trust.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” Luke 12:34. Everything we own is a test of our affection. Jesus did not say, “Where your heart is, that is where your treasure will be”. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be”. Make no mistake about it, it is not the other way round. These two statements mean two totally different things. So what is Jesus saying in essence? He is saying, I can tell you where your heart will be tomorrow based on when your treasure is today. Your heart is where it is today because of where you put your treasure yesterday. I pray everybody understands this. So permit me to reiterate for the sake of clarity. Jesus said, where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be. Jesus did not say, where your heart is, that is where your treasure will be. Which is why some men profess to their wives that their heart is with her. But she is shouting because she sees your treasure going somewhere else and she knows eventually your heart will follow. You are wondering why she is shouting even after you have confessed your love for her but she can see your treasure is going somewhere else! It is simply because where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be. Similarly, I can tell you where heart will be tomorrow by checking where your treasure is going today!

Please read Acts 5:1-11. I used to struggle with story as a new Christian because my thoughts were, these people tried Lord and at least they gave. But as I grew in God I saw their mistakes. Everyone was willing selling their possession and giving their money to the church purely out of love for God and His work. Ananias and Sapphira decided to also pretend that they love God. But the problem with Ananias and Sapphira was what Peter said, “When you had it, was it not yours?” And I say, after you sell it and give it to God is it not still yours? When you give to God you have not lost anything. Is He not your Father? Why are you playing games with God?

Prayer [song]: Everything, everything
Lord, You are everything to me
(2x). My treasure, my priority,
 Who can compare to You.
Great is the measure of Your royalty.
Oh, morning star, You truly are everything. Amen!
