Test of Devotion

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other” Deut.4:39 [NIV]

Everything we own is a test of our devotion. And a key thing to devotion is recognizing God as Source and Sovereign. If you are struggling to have consistent devotion with God, check, does your heart really recognize God as your Source and as Sovereign? The key to devotion is every time you go before God, every time you bow before Him, you worship Him, you pray, you have your devotion; it is a recognition of God as your Source. Anytime you can do without praying, you can do without having your devotion, you are making a statement that you do not need God. Worship and devotion is a statement to Heaven that you recognize God as your Source and that He is Sovereign over you. And that is so powerful. When God blesses you with possession, with wealth, with treasure, it is a test of that devotion. God is going to test that devotion.

Do you acknowledge God? Really that was the problem Nebuchadnezzar had. “…Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he choosesDan.4:25. This was Daniel telling the king what God had decreed on one hand but appealing to him on the other hand to humble himself so that these things will not happen to him. You would think that a wise king would heed this warning right? But twelve months passed, God gave him twelve months to repent before God struck. Month one, two, three, seven, eleven – acknowledge that it is not by your power, is that difficult? I hope it is not. Acknowledge that there is a God that has made you, acknowledge Him! And this is one of the things I pray about, Lord please do not let me eat grass before I under these things. And it is because God can make anybody eat grass. This was the strongest king of the world at the time and God made him eat grass like a cow just to show him that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses. And the Bible says that after seven years of eating grass, “…I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.  All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him…Dan.4:34-35 [emphasis added].

Thought: Why are you fretting when there is a God in heaven who rules over all?

Prayer: Lord God, I acknowledge that You are the Most High and honored, the One who lives forever. Your rule is everlasting and Your Kingdom eternal, in Jesus Name.
