Relational Clarity

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  1Cor.13:13[NIV].

The quality of your life is directly proportional to the quality of your relationships. The quality of your life is not directly proportional to the quality of things that you own. The quality of your life is directly proportional to the quality of your relationships. If your relationships are sour, your life will be sour. Unfortunately, because we struggle in our relationships, we try to fill our lives with things. So we end up loving things and using people. It is a trap you should not fall into. God wants us to love people and use things.

The greatest joy you will ever feel is going to come from your relationships and not things! “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  1Cor.13:13 [NIV, emphasis added]. Faith- you can do without another person because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God – it is an action. Hope – you can do alone but you cannot do love alone. God has designed us to be beings of relationships. And of course the converse is also the case. The greatest pain you will ever feel is going to come from relationships and not from things. In fact, the closer the person, the more vulnerable you are and the greater the pain they can inflict on you.

So as human beings, we tend to enter into a shell in order to protect ourselves. As they say, once beaten twice shy. What the people that insist they have learnt their lessons are really saying in essence, is that they are going to build walls around themselves. If you are one of such people, please note that you will be doing yourself a disservice because your life can only be as fulfilled as you are vulnerable.

Men generally do not like to be weak. They do not want to be vulnerable to any woman. So they put up airs and build walls around themselves. I pray that God will help you, so that you will be all that God has made you to be. In fact in the western world, a lot of people have replaced relationships with human beings, with relationships with dogs and cats. The pet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry because the pets will not break their hearts. But the reality is that a dog is just a dog. You need a human being.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me think clearly about my relationships, so that I can be all that You have made me to be, in Jesus Name.
