Commit

“Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood there and said, ‘Lord, I will give half my wealth to the poor and if I have overcharged people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!’ Luke 19:8.

The truth is that a few years ago, many of us would not have even imagined that we would be where we are today. I once saw a cartoon of two caterpillars talking about a butterfly. And one caterpillar was telling the other that it could never do what the butterfly was doing. In just a few weeks down the line, it became a butterfly. For a lot of us, just five years ago, you would not have believed you would be where you are with God today.

For some, it is just a few months ago, or a few weeks ago, they would never have imagined how far God would have brought them and is taking them. So when people say to me, I can never be a pastor I just say, “Caterpillar, caterpillar, you will soon become a butterfly”. Some people just look at my schedule and they panic. How are you able to do all these things? I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that question. Some people say, I wanted to be a pastor but after studying you and seeing what it takes, I have had a rethink. Caterpillar!

Since just by looking back on your life’s journey you are filled with gratitude for how far God has brought you, I urge you not give up on anyone and on yourself. Just stay open to God. God wants to change your heart and make it new. So you and I must commit to spiritual growth. About Zacchaeus, the Bible says, “Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood there and said, ‘Lord, I will give half my wealth to the poor and if I have overcharged people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”

Zacchaeus committed and Jesus responded. “Jesus responded, ‘Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a son of Abraham.” Luke 19:9 [emphasis added]. When you make a move by faith, heaven is waiting for you to back it up with commitment and works. The reason a lot of people do not experience life change or are unable to sustain it, is because they make a move by faith and heaven is saying, take the next step but they do not. Scripture says, come close to God and God will come close to you, wash your hands you sinners; purify your hearts for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. God waiting for you take a step towards Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I commit to reading my Bible and praying every day, I commit to continue to reach people close to me but far from God for Jesus, in Jesus Name.
