Knowing VII

Ph. 2:5 [NCV]In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.”

Test #6 for determining God voice is: Does this make me more like Christ? God’s goal is to make us like Christ Jesus and God will not say anything that will make us less like Christ. Take note of all the Scripture references I have given these past few days. These tests are not made up. They are rooted in God’s Word and you can build your faith on God’s Word.

In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.” One sure way to achieve this is, 2Cor.10:5 [GW] “We take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ.” Is the thought, the idea, the inspiration, or revelation obedient to Christ? Taking thoughts captive is something we must do on a day-to-day basis. Nobody is exempt, not even pastors.

I started playing golf recently so when my brother who also plays golf came to visit, I invited him to play with me. We are very competitive in my family. I mean we eat and drink competition, but we are comfortable with it; there is no strife. I won the first and second game, even though the scores were horrible. And in the third game, we both hit our balls out of bounds. You either recover the ball or get penalized and lose scores. I found my ball and I was happy. Our scores were close so this would give me an advantage.

Guess what? I also found his ball and my thoughts were, “That is his business. Let everyone carry his own cross”. He was about to drop a ball and get penalized and I found myself struggling in my heart. So I stopped him and showed him where his ball was. Long story short, he won the game. So I began to say to God, “Not fair! I was the good guy; shouldn’t I be compensated with a win? If he did not find the ball perhaps the game would have been a tie”. And I felt God saying, “It is not about you winning, it is about what you are becoming”. You cannot in the bid to win become a monster. A lot of people are doing strange things just to get ahead. God reminded me that He is more interested in holiness than happiness. Show him the ball and lose the game; you become more like Christ and you become a better person. It is not about winning, it is about what you are becoming!

Prayer: Father, help me to think and act like Jesus in my daily living, in Jesus Name. Amen!
