Self Control

Heb.13:5 “Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

One of humanities biggest craving is for love and acceptance. It is a craving that God has given us. Sadly, we look in the wrong places for fulfillment. A lot of people are confused and lack direction because they have experienced rejection from their object of adoration and affection. When the object of affection becomes the object of rejection, people struggle deeply with direction. That is why some people go from one sex partner to another trying to fill a void that only Jesus can fill.

God is saying to you today, regardless of the number of times you have been rejected, He [the God of all creation] will never leave you nor forsake you. God will never reject you. I do not know what struggles or rejection you are faced with, but God wants you to know that He will never fail you.

There are three things about sex that we must know. The first thing we must know is that sex is what it is. People try to colour, downplay, or even minimize it but sex is what it is. Sex can be beautiful and like the appetite for food, when met deliciously, sex can be very enjoyable. However, unlike the appetite for food that starts at birth and follows through till death, the sexual appetite comes later in life and it does not last till old age. That is why when God said to Sarah, “by this time next year you will have a child”, Sarah laughed. It is easy to read that scripture and think that Sarah did not have faith. Sarah’s focus was on their age and the fact that the sexual appetite had gone.

The appetite for food is strong and consistent; it stays with you for life. If you can control your appetite for food, you can control your appetite for sex. If you can successfully fast, you will be able to bring your whole body under control. Did you notice that satan did not tempt Jesus with pretty girls? Whether food or sex it is still the same craving for physical pleasure. The truth is that when you really fast, you lose the strength for sexual pleasure. Fasting is for your own good. It helps bring your whole life under control.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, as I engage the discipline of fasting, empower me to grow in self control, discipline and curb my appetite for physical pleasure, in Jesus Name. Amen
