Your Best

Gal.6:4 “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else” [with emphasis]

1 Cor. 13:8 “Love never fails.” You can either live in love or live in fear, it is your choice. I pray that you will choose love. If you live in love, you fear God. If you do not fear God, then you will fear many things. Fear God or be subject to the fear of everything else. Your choice!

In order to banish the fear of failure, so far we have learnt the five R’s. Remember that everybody fails. Realize that failure is not fatal. Recognize the benefit of failure. Redefine failure. The fifth R is Resist the Temptation of Comparing Yourself. This is usually the root of a lot of failures. A lot of people have remained under the shadows of the fear that everyone else is better than they are at one thing or the other. And comparing themselves with others overwhelms them. Gal. 6:4 “Let everyone do his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work done well, and won’t need to compare himself with someone else” [LB, with emphasis]. I think this is a Scripture that a lot of us need to put in front of us and engage it every single day. Just do your best because that is all God wants from you.

Long ago, when my spiritual father was still alive, for some reason he picked me to anoint and lay hands on people with him. I almost fainted. I ran away and came back again. I was afraid that nobody would queue in front of me. Who would want me to lay hands on them? He is so anointed, how could I even think of standing on the altar beside him?

I honestly cannot tell how he arrived at the decision to pick me. Then I remembered the Scripture, “let he that ministers, minister according to the ability that God has given so that God in all things can be glorified”. Even though I was shaking, I stood beside him. Perhaps only my wife will be on my queue. The point of my sharing this experience is that you and I need to stop making ourselves so small. God can see you already, so just be yourself and do not compare yourself with anybody. You do not know what God has or what God is taking that person through. Pay careful attention to your own work. Mind your own business!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me run the race that You have called me to run and do my very best with everything You entrust me with, in Jesus Name. Amen!
