Proper Perspective

Deut.18:9 “…be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations… 10 For example, …fortune-telling …sorcery …interpret omens …witchcraft, …cast spells 11…mediums or psychics… 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord…” [with emphasis]

God says anyone whether pastors, prophets, evangelist, apostles, believer, non-believer, whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord. The fact that people throw a cloak of Pentecostalism over fortune telling does not change it from divination as far as heaven is concerned and heaven detests it. Deut.18:13 “But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. 14The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.” Let your ears hear what the Spirit is saying.

My responsibility is to show you God’s Word. If you have questions, or a different position, or even feelings of anger, I suggest you prayerfully take it to God. Sometimes as a result of cultural practices, people think there is nothing wrong with consulting herbalists. Some of such people have embraced the modern culture so they have replaced herbalists with pastors. But it is the same consultative mentality. Some people are going to church just to see a consultant. I am not interested in that and I do not advocate it because that is not what God wants. That is not what Jesus died for. God needs you; needs a relationship with you.

You will get into trouble when it is all about problem solving and not about God loving. Again I say, you will get into trouble with God if the only reason you go to church and to God is to solve your problems. My grandmother used to sing a song, the English translation is “He is not a herbalist, He is not the star gazer, He is God”. If we understand this, it will change our lives, change how we approach God and our walk with Him.

The herbalist does not care if you are living right or not. But God loves you and He wants you to love Him. He wants you to know Him, grow in Him, stop sinning, and become filled with the Holy Spirit. When church is just about killing all your enemies, then there is something seriously wrong. The church that will not draw you close to God is not a church. Do not get me wrong, we are not confused; our God solves problems. But it is about the Giver and not about the gift. This is the proper perspective of things – it is all about God.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help to enforce this proper perspective, the God perspective in everything that I do, in Jesus Name. Amen!
