Active Faith

Heb.11:6 “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him”

God wants us to Step Up in different areas of our lives. We have looked at how to step up financially and spiritually. Over the next few days, we will be looking at a component of stepping up that is indispensable and that is Faith. It is impossible to Step Up without faith. An anonymous quote states, “Faith is taking the first step even when you cannot see the whole staircase”. Even though you are not sure where the stairs lead, you take the first step; because God has prompted you to take a step, you take the first – that is faith.

Heb.11:⁶ “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” [with emphasis]. The New Living Translation puts it this way, “…God rewards those who sincerely seek Him”. So we will be spending some time in the wonderful book of Hebrews chapter eleven particularly, examining and learning about faith from the great examples that the scriptures put before us.

Heb.11:¹ “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see” [with emphasis]. Faith shows, faith always shows. If you have faith, it shows. If you do not have faith, it also shows. Fear like faith also shows. If someone is fearful, you can tell because the corresponding action will show you clearly that the person is fearful. Similarly, with faith, the corresponding action shows that the person has faith. People that are afraid take a lot of actions based on fear. Imagine a woman hears footsteps downstairs when her husband is out of town and she is home alone. As you can imagine, she will bolt and lock all the doors and ensure that where she is, is a fortress. Then she will call her husband, call security and call heaven. She is actually praying out of fear and not faith.

Just like that woman’s actions show her fear, our actions can show our faith. The reason people cannot pray or fast is simple; these actions require faith. Prayer and fasting require that you put your trust in a God you cannot see and to call upon Him.

Prayer: Father, I ask that as I show up in Your Presence daily, that You will grow my faith and trust in You alone, in Jesus Name. Amen!
