Step Up Lesson 4

Gen.18:12 So she laughed silently to herself and said, “How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure, especially when my master—my husband—is also so old?” [with emphasis].

What did God tell Sarah would happen by the same time in the following year? God said Abraham and Sarah would have a son, right? But what was Sarah thinking about? She was thinking about sex [it is in the Bible, read your Bible]. All she was thinking about was the process. Sarah “…How could a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure…”. Did God say pleasure? Do not get too fixated on the process; do not get too fixated on ‘HOW’.

Gen.18:13 Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, ‘Can an old woman like me have a baby?’ 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” While God was focused on the baby – the end result, Sarah was focused on the process. Many times because we are too engulfed with the ‘HOW’, we miss the “WHAT’ all together. God had said to us, to me that I will lend to nations; I pray that you will receive that Word too. But when some people hear that Word, all they can think about is their certificate or how they need to change their jobs.

Read the Bible; God never said I will give you a new job and then you will be able to lend to nations. God says you will lend to nations; how that will happen is God’s business. Your job and mine is just to follow Him one step at a time. The same goes for having children. Even today, are people not having children without sexual intercourse? Could God not have given Abraham and Sarah children without the pleasure she was so worried about? He is God.

Gen.18:14 “Is anything too hard for the Lord?.” Can you see God’s pain in this sentence? God was more or less saying, “Why is Sarah talking like this? Why is she breaking My heart? Is anything too hard for the Lord?” God can give you the desires of your heart without the process that you are worrying about. Nothing is beyond God. I pray that we will find mercy with God as Sarah found mercy with God.

The step up lesson from Sarah is that nothing is beyond God! Nothing! So when God speaks, personalize it and trust Him completely to bring His Word to pass in your life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I will fix my eyes on You as I follow You and trust You for the fulfillment of Your unfailing Word in my life, in Jesus Name. Amen!
