Step Up Lesson 5

Ex.2:2 “The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months.”

Heb.11:17 “It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” The step up lesson from the life of Abraham is that faith equals obedience! In other words, faith is obedience. Abraham’s faith was displayed in his consistent obedience.

The sixth example of stepping up by faith is from Moses’ parents. Heb.11:23 It was by faith that Moses’ parents hid him for three months when he was born. They saw that God had given them an unusual child, and they were not afraid to disobey the king’s command” [with emphasis].
Faith is disobeying commands that are unjust from leaders. It is faith to disobey the instructions of men when they are not in line with the Word of God. Moses’ parents taught us a huge lesson that it is wise to hide until it is time to shine. I will say it again for the sake of emphasis; it is wise to hide until it is time to shine.

When Jesus was born, He had to be hidden from Herod because His time had not yet come. Most people do not hide the things in their lives that are tender. They expose them too early and attract unnecessary battles. Pregnancy for instance; yes, I know you have waited for this miracle for years and yes, I know you want to tell everyone of God’s faithfulness. But wait, God Himself has designed pregnancy to announce itself. Some things, particularly spiritual things, need spiritual traction to bring to birth. But if you talk it all away, then you run into problems. It is wise to hide until it is time to shine.

Learn a lesson from Moses’ parents; it is wise to hide until it is time to shine. It is wise to keep quiet until you have enough resources to fight your battle; believe me! My grandmother used to say; a child whose father died a mysterious death, needs to be patient until he has a sword before he begins to search for the person that killed his father. If such a child starts his search before he has a sword, the same thing that killed his father will kill him. A lot of people are making this same mistake spiritually.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me know when to be silent and when to speak; heighten my sensitivity to Your leading and Your nudges, in Jesus Name. Amen!
