The First SELF
Eph.2:5 “That even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)” [with emphasis]
The first “self” that you and I need to take to The Cross so that the power of resurrection can flow through us, is Self-righteousness. One reason we do not experience the fullness of Christ is that we think we are not so bad. We rate ourselves based on the scale of what others are doing and we conclude that we are good. But that is a problem because it blocks resurrection power. One of the best things that can happen to you is to realize that you are not a good person. One of the best things that ever happened to me was realizing that I am not a good person.
Realizing that you are not a good person helps you recognize your need for help. When you keep thinking that you are good, it is self-righteousness and it will hinder your walk with God. Rom.3:10 “As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one.” Another challenge is that when we finally admit that we need help, we think in terms of improvement, in terms of baby steps forward. But God thinks in terms of transformation, not improvement –huge difference! While we are seeking to be better, Jesus Christ is seeking to change us. We want to become better one step at a time but what God has for us is total transformation.
2 Cor.5:17 (KJV) “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” The same way we preach healing, believe God for healing and receive healing. The same way we preach prosperity, believe God for prosperity, and prosper. In the same way, we must believe God for life change and the power of the Holy Spirit will bring it to pass in our lives. Get rid of the mindset that life change should happen gradually. What God wants for you is transformation.
Jesus did not suffer humiliation on The Cross and resurrect to make you a better person. Jesus went through all that to give you life. There is a huge difference between trying to be good and being alive in God. When you are alive in God, the life of God flows through you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am not a good person and I need You, Saviour. Let the life of God flow through me effortlessly, in Jesus Name. Amen!
