Sweet Spot I

Eph.1:18 (KJV) “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints”

Work has two components – the job and the calling and they are very different. What a lot of people are doing is a job. To help us grasp this easily, we will enumerate the differences between the job and the calling. Your job is what you are paid to do. Your calling is what you are made to do. Your job requires your brains. Your calling on the other hand requires your heart. Your job is focused on tasks. You do the tasks – you get paid. Your calling is about the mission. The reward for your job is money, the reward that your calling gives is meaning – big differences. Even though a lot of people are earning money, their lives lack meaning.

We were all trained to do a job and there is nothing actually wrong with that. However, your entire life should not only be about getting trained to get skills so that you can do tasks and get paid. The purpose of this season is to help you realize that you have a calling. There is something you were made to do, a mission you are made to accomplish that will bring meaning to your life and not just something you are paid to do. It is a calling. When your job intersects with your calling, you have what is called a sweet spot. How does one push towards and achieve this? Is it possible to bring the job and the calling together?

Sometimes, the job and the calling are two disconnected worlds. For example, a lady has been called to care for motherless babies but she works in a bank. So, she will go to the bank to fulfil the job, then close early and go to the motherless babies home to fulfil the call. For such a person to be all that God wants her to be, she has to work at making the intersection happen or her calling totally swallowing up the job. The lady for instance can get her organization to take on the motherless babies home as a project which she champions. Or she can build her own home for motherless babies. However, in some cases that is not what God wants. God actually wants people to remain in the job and still fulfil their calling because sometimes people discover their calling on the job.

Prayer: Lord, cause the eyes of my understanding to be enlightened so that I will know the hope of my calling and bring glory to Your Name, in Jesus Name. Amen!
