1 Sam.3:19 “As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him, and everything Samuel said, proved to be reliable.”

 

The second thing that excellent people do is sharpen their skills. So, rate yourself; how are your job skills? You need to be brutal with yourself in your assessment. If your job skills are obsolete, then you are a one. If you are learning, then you are a five. A ten is if you have a developmental plan.

Imagine I come to your office and nobody knows I am your pastor. When I ask, what would people have to say about you? Would it be that you are their most skilled person on staff? How do you think God will feel? That is one of the greatest testimonies you could have. And since you owe God that testimony of your life to reach people for him, then you have to be the best in your field. When I was in paid employment, one of my top goals was to know more than my boss. I gave myself to the goal and in no time, I was the solution to all the issues that came up. To excel, you need to imbibe the things that people who excel do.

The third thing people who excel do, is Keep Their Word. They are reliable and responsible. You can count on them. The truth is that such people are rare. If you can be dependable, you are on the path to rarity, which is obviously the path of excellence. Prov.20:6 (GN) “Everyone talks about how loyal and faithful he is, but just try to find someone who really is!” [with emphasis]. The truth is reliability beats talent on the long run. People that are talented and not reliable, will not go as far as people that are averagely talented and reliable. Robert “Bob” Jones says, “The greatest ability is dependability.”

Prov.25:19 (GN) “Depending on an unreliable person in a crisis is like trying to chew with a loose tooth or walk with a crippled foot” [with emphasis]. You have to be responsible. You have to make up your mind to be reliable and give it what it takes. People who excel keep their word.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, because You have made me in Your image and You are reliable, Lord cause me also to be reliable, in Jesus Name. Amen!
