Col.3:22 “Obey your masters… not only when their eye is on you… but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord” [with emphasis].
Do you have to be supervised to excel? Excellent people require no supervision. Excellent people actually know that God is always watching them. So, they do what needs to be done even when no one is watching. If you wait until people are around before you act responsibly, then you need to repent and get on the path of excellence today. Why? It is because the Master you serve is always watching. Obey your masters, leaders, and bosses even when they are not around or checking on you.
Prov.25:19 (GN) “Depending on an unreliable person in a crisis, is like trying to chew with a loose tooth or walk with a crippled foot” [with emphasis]. How do you know an excellent and responsible person? A boss walks his staff through the how of keeping a particular process running. Now, between them, they know that the process is not a priority one process but, because of some other dependencies, the process needs to keep running. The responsible person knows the boss may never check, but will keep the process running. The unreliable person will do it a few times and stop because no one is checking.
A young job seeker saw an advert in the papers; a company was looking to hire a young, responsible man. The remuneration for the role was really good; so he applied. The day of the interview came and he showed up. When asked why he thought he qualified, he said, “Your advert states that you are looking for a young responsible man, so here I am”.
“Tell us how you have demonstrated being responsible at your last job”, the interviewer asked. He replied, “In my last three jobs, any time something goes wrong, my employer would tell me ‘You are responsible!’” Let it be said that he or she keeps her word.
How reliable are you? If you play when your boss is away, you are a one. If you work whether the boss is around or not, you are a ten. If you are in between – sometimes you need to have the boss around to make you sit and sometimes not, then you are a four. Rate yourself.
