Acts 20:24 “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”
Our scripture reference today poses us a question that you and I must answer for ourselves. Darius said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you” [Dan.6:16]. Are you serving God? When we hear the word serving, we tend to think about it mostly in terms of becoming a worker in a local church, but it actually goes beyond that. Becoming part of a local church and fellowshipping there regularly is serving God. Some days ago, we talked about joining a Life Group, that also, is serving God. One thing you need to know about God is, God always takes note of service to Him. God does not only require faithfulness from us, God Himself is faithful in nature. So, be encouraged to keep serving because it is going to speak for you one day.
Dan.6:18 “Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn’t sleep at all that night.” Darius was a king and Daniel was the “servant-boy” but king Darius himself had a “vigil” for Daniel. Do you have people that will stand in the gap for you? When you are thrown into the “den of lions”, are there people that will not be able to sleep because of you? Are there people that will keep watch, trusting the God of heaven whom you serve to deliver you? If you do not have, the good news is that you will when you join a life group. So, stop putting it off and get into a community of believers today. It was not when Daniel got into trouble that he did the right things, he had been doing the right things long before trouble came. It is only a foolish man that will wait till the day of adversity to build a refuge. Community is God’s solution for us all.
Opportunities to stand for your belief in Christ Jesus will arise this week. Perhaps, a non-Christian friend or acquaintance with whom you could share your faith. This is an opportunity to stand just like Daniel. You probably would be around people that are gossiping, cheating, compromising, etc. that will be an opportunity to stand for God. Commit to taking a stand, to be a Daniel, and make your Heavenly Father happy. When we stand for what is true, God is pleased. Regardless of your vocation, there is a task that has been assigned to you by God in that sphere. The glory of your life and destiny is to draw people that are far from God to God. I pray that you and I will be faithful in executing our assignments in Jesus Name.
Prayer: Father, help me to be faithful, that I will not to be found wanting, in Jesus Name. Amen!
