The Answer II

Eccl. 4:12 “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

There is great value in the small group fellowships and there is great value in being planted in the large group fellowship. When we come together, we bring our fire together and it is like a bonfire effect – powerful. You have access to pastors that can pray with you and counsel you. If you think that you know everything, God’s Word has something to say to you. Prov.28:26 (Voice) “Anyone who puts confidence only in himself is a fool, but the person who follows wisdom will be kept safe.” The New Living Translation puts it this way, “Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.” In the multitude of counselors, there is safety.

You need people to walk with you. You need people to work with you. Thirdly, you and I need people to watch out for us. When you are traveling or stepping away from your station, you need to tell someone so that they can keep an eye on things for you. When you take your child to the boarding house, you usually would befriend a teacher or a senior student to watch out for your child. But the question to you is, who is watching out for you? Who is watching out for your soul? Who is watching out for your spiritual development? Who is watching out for you? I once put on a jacket that I thought I had worn before. Unknown to me it was still new and still had the stitches on the back flap. As I stepped out of the office, someone saw it and alerted me. So, I asked him to help me remove the stitch. I could not see my back, if that person had not watched out for me, I would have gone around like that for the entire day.

We must watch out for one another. If my zipper is down, please tell me. Do not let me preach an entire sermon with my zipper down. You should not turn a blind eye on your brother. Heb.13:1 (CEV) “Keep being concerned about each other as the Lord’s followers should.” My question to you today is, is there anyone watching your back? Who is watching your back? In the church, we have systems in place to make sure that happens. Join a Life Group, go for counseling, don’t think you know everything. Community is God’s answer to defeat. Even the pros need a coach. These people are highly skilled so why do they need coaches? It is because they know that he who relies on his own insight alone, is a fool. No matter how skilled you are, there will always be people that can see what you cannot see. You may be more skilled than them, but they can spot your flaws. Why should arrogance destroy your life? Everybody needs a coach.

Prayer: Father, help me to walk in the wisdom of Godly counselors and not rely on my knowledge alone, in Jesus Name. Amen!
