Lord of All!

Matt.16:18 “Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.”

The journey we have been on as a church has been a very interesting one. With a lot of twists and turns, ups and downs. A lot of betrayals but above all triumphs, with Jesus all the centre of it all. I was listening to a lady minister in one of the conferences I attended years ago, and she said she went to Starbucks and there was no coffee. So, she tweeted, ‘in Starbucks and there is no coffee’. Someone replied to her tweet with this tweet, ‘I was in McDonald’s and there was no big mac!’ If a Nigerian was to tweet back, it would probably read, I was in Mr. Biggs and there was no meat pie or I was in KFC and there was no chicken.  Or I was in mama put there was no amala, or I went to Domino pizza and there no pizza.

Similarly, it is like showing up in church and God’s presence is not there. That would be an aberration because the Church is all about the presence of Jesus. The Lordship of Jesus is the preoccupation of the Church. I love the way A. W. Tozer puts it, he says, “Jesus is not one of many ways to approach God, nor is He the best of several ways; He is the only way.”  Jesus Himself says in John 14:6 “…I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the only way. If you check all the major religions, in fairness to the men that started those religions, none of them ever claimed to be “the way”. Buddha on his death bed when asked about the way said, “I am still seeking for the way.” Krishna, when asked about the way, said, “The truth is like a butterfly that can escape. You need to chant – Krishna, Krishna, Ramah Ramah, and maybe you may see the way. But like a butterfly, it can escape.” Mohammed did not say he was the way, he said, “I am just a prophet pointing to the way.” But Jesus shows up and says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, nobody comes to the father, except by me.” Who do you want to place the bet of your life on? Jesus, I hope. All this information is in the public domain.

If it all about Jesus, then Jesus deserves our all. Jesus is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all. You cannot offer Jesus fifty percent of your life because you want to be in control of the other fifty percent. For Jesus to be in full control, He must actually be in full control. Jesus deserves the best of us and the best from us and that is why we are big on doing things excellently.

Prayer:  Father, we thank You for the journey of the Church. Thank You Lord for making Your Church unstoppable. We return all the praise to You, in Jesus Name. Amen!
