Your Hearing
John 10:14&27 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me… My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
God is supernatural. God is a Spirit. We do not see God. I understand that. So, learning to hear God’s voice takes practice, but it is possible. And that is why in God’s Favourite House, we have the New Creation Reality classes, a program designed to help believers in their walk with God. One of the classes is focused entirely on Hearing From God. Learning to hear God’s voice is possible, but it takes practice. The truth is that the more you hear God’s voice, the clearer you are on how He speaks to you. So, someone who has been hearing God for thirty years would be more conversant with God’s voice than someone who has been hearing God for one year. The more you spend time with Him the more you know His voice.
Growing up, it seemed like I was the favourite pick to accompany my grandmother to the market. I liked the market because it was exciting. But I hated going with her particularly because she could frustrate your life. How? For example, she would go to “Seller A” who is selling ‘item x’ for five naira and bargains until she gets “Seller A” to sell it to her for two naira. Then she says, “I am coming”, and goes to “Seller B” who is also selling ‘item x’. She haggles and haggles until “Seller B” finally agrees to sell it to her for one naira eighty kobo. Buy it! Nope! Off she goes to “Seller C” who refuses to sell ‘item x’ for two naira. So, she goes back to “Seller A” and says, “Customer, I have come to buy from you because you are my customer.”
Inside me, I am screaming, “Mama, buy this thing and let us go!” Guess what? I am the one carrying the bags containing all the things we have bought from one store to another, surrounded by market activities, people fighting, talking, gossiping, and those trying to steal. Naturally, I am distracted watching all that is happening around me. Then, I look up and I cannot find my grandmother anywhere. The feeling of being lost is very scary. So, I start to shout, “Mama! Mama!” Most times, she is also looking for me in another part of the market shouting, “Omo mi!” (meaning my child). The market is rowdy and bustling with activities.
But once I hear her voice, I am running in that direction. How did I know it was her? I know her voice even amongst hundreds of people talking at the same time. When you are conversant with the Holy Spirit, there can be a lot of noise around you, but you will hear Him. When you hear Him, you will know you have heard Him. The more you hear Him, the clearer it becomes.
Prayer: Father, I am Your sheep, my ears are tuned to Your voice, in Jesus Name. Amen!
