Pointers II
‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’ Matt.11:28[KJV].
Unresolved pain is so bad that it keeps us from reaching our potential. ‘Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant— I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.’Ps.73:21-22. God has such great plans for you, do not allow the pain of the past rob you of it. Unresolved pain pollutes our relationships, ‘a bitter spirit which is not only bad in itself but can also poison the lives of many others’ Heb.12:15 [Philips]. A mother who is carrying the baggage of unresolved pain will most likely to taint her children with it and they too will become victims. Another pointer to becoming a victim is that the painful experience becomes a part of our identity. The truth is that no matter what you do, you are going to be hurt. There will be people who are sensitive to your pain and will offer to help. Yet there will also be people who will be insensitive and malicious about your pain. Still, the responsibility of not allowing that pain become your identity lies solely with you. When you own the attacks, you become resentful to people. You are already bearing the scar of that painful experience; do not let it rob you of your identity too. If you have already owned it and it has become your identity; you can still fight it by taking it to Jesus today. Sometimes, the people around you may refuse to allow you discard this negative identity. For example, Bartimaeus who even though his turn around was remarkable, people still refer to him as blind Bartimaeus till date. You have to choose to be unaffected by what people say and hold on to what you know. If you own it, you become enslaved to that identity. Countless people have become slaves to the baggage of pain and are clueless on how to rid themselves of it. Pain can easily move from identity to enslavement. Yet, Jesus offers to set us free. It is possible that you have become so overwhelmed by a painful experience, take it to Jesus and you will find rest and a new identity.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the Balm of Gilead. I come to You today asking for healing. Heal my wounds and make me whole again. Restore my God given identity, in Jesus Name
