Glory Road
2 Cor.4:17 (AMP) For our momentary, light distress (this passing trouble) is producing for us an eternal weight of glory (a fullness) beyond all measure (surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendour and an endless blessedness)!
When should I fast? You should fast in preparation to receive a Word from God. In God’s Favourite House, for example, we deliberately cut out special seasons where we fast in preparation to receive a Word from God. You should fast for spiritual deliverance; fast to stop an undesired spiritual pattern and for spiritual interference. God tells us in His Word that there is a “kind” that only responds to prayer and fasting. Mark 9:29 (Voice) “Jesus: That sort of powerful spirit can only be conquered with much prayer (and fasting)” You should also fast when you are seeking protection (Ezra 8:21-23).
It appears that as a believer, we have to fast pretty often. So, even when you do not advertise your fast, sometimes your body gives it away. What I have discovered is that if you pray every day, you will get more mileage spiritually than just praying for eight hours on Saturday alone. Anyone will be alarmed to see a loved one lose twenty kilograms in two weeks. Your family will probably call for a family meeting – that was what happened to me. The believer’s spiritual journey is a marathon. What I do is I live a fasted life and then increase the intensity and duration of my fast at special seasons like the God Will Do It Again seasons.
Over time, people have come to accept my stature as it is. However, extended periods of fasting will still show on your body and there is nothing you can do about. Take comfort because the Bible says, though the outer man perishes, the inner man is renewed day by day (2 Cor.4:15-17). In reality, it does not matter really, because when it is all said and done, at the end of the day, no one can deny the results. Years ago, when my wife and I were courting, one day while talking to her on the phone, I heard someone’s voice in the background. The way the Holy Spirit deals with me is that He can choose to download everything about the person to me just from hearing the person’s voice. That was exactly what happened on that day and I told her who the person was and what would happen. She, of course, thought I was being judgemental about someone I had not even met. Guess what? Things played out just like I said; she lost a job because of this person. Now when I speak, she listens! So, stay focused on results and not just looks.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for setting me on the path of eternal glory because it vastly outweighs every inconvenience I will have to face, in Jesus Name. Amen!
