2nd Root of Personal Disharmony: Lack of contentment

‘But godliness with contentment is great gain’  1Tim.6:6

Another root cause of personal disharmony is lack of contentment. The reason why a lot of people do not have peace and harmony in their lives is because they are not content. There are people who are in church and are not content with the shoes on their feet. Be content! God did not say godliness with complacency is great gain because there is a difference between contentment, complacency and greed. What is contentment viz-a-viz complacency and greed? Contentment is being grateful for what God has provided and continuous striving to be all that God has created us to be. Complacency is the ‘whatever-will-be-will-be’ attitude. God does not want you to be complacent. There is a thin line between both and sometimes you do not know when you have drifted from contentment to complacency. You need to ensure that you are content but not complacent. Greed on the other hand is always looking at what others have and seeking to possess it. Who says you must get something better than your neighbor’s latest acquisition. You need to talk to yourself and shutdown every request that greed makes in your mind, trying to masquerade your greed as your needs. God wants you to be content but not complacent and definitely not greedy. Pay close attention to your heart when you are content so that you do not slip into complacency. Are you in a place where every one is suggesting change and you feel your justification for refusing to move along with them is because you see their greed? Check, have you become complacent and are chocking change with scripture. You need to guard your heart carefully because greed can creep in unannounced.

Prayer: Lord, please teach me contentment by Your Spirit. I ask that You place a guard over my heart against greed and complacency, in Jesus Name.
