The Answer
2 Kings 4:2-3 “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbours”
Phillip and Andrew are always mostly together, the same way John was with Peter and sometimes James. Even among the twelve, they had friendships going on. Anytime you see Phillip in the Bible, look very closely, you will find Andrew. John 6:8-9 “Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” Andrew went further than Phillip to show where they could actually find some bread. But his conclusion was the same as Phillip’s, which is, this bread is not enough. To fulfil your destiny, you need to find ‘Where’, and leave the practicality of ‘How’ to Jesus. most times when you find “Where”, God will sort out the “How”. You need to find “Where” and let God sort out the “How”. The “Where” was the little boy. ‘Where can we find bread to feed the five thousand men not counting women and children. “Where”, the answer is the boy. The miracle did not happen until Jesus’ question was answered. When God asks you a question, the miracle does not happen until His question is answered. The boy is ‘where’ the bread was.
John 6:10 “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.)” What is the significance of this? Why would Jesus tell the disciples to tell everyone to sit down? It is because God is a God of order. If you check scriptures, God always puts things in order. God does not like disorder. God always puts things in their proper order. Someone said, ‘The common denominator between all underdeveloped nations is disorder.’ Disorder is totally destructive. The question to you and I today is, what can you do about the disorder around you? What are you going to do about the disorder around you? Or are we helpless to do anything about it? We have to be intentional about enforcing order and we have to be ready to pay the price.
What can just one person do? One person can confront one person. One night after a mid-week service, getting home was almost impossible the road was totally blocked. The median on the expressway had not yet been done, so it was very easy for people to just get on the other side of the road and drive against traffic. It was really tempting because I was tired. But I said, ‘No’, so I stayed in traffic. Then suddenly, I saw one of my daughters on the other side of the road, speeding past. I was shocked. While I would not tell you how our conversation went, I can tell you that that was the last time she did that. We can do something; we can pray the price.
John 6:11 “Then Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated…” (NRSV, emphasis added). Meaning some did not sit down so they did not get bread, Jesus insisted that those that were not in order were not served. We must insist on order and people who refuse to follow the order should forget about getting anything.
Prayer: Father, I ask for wisdom for the right response and to be orderly, in Jesus Name. Amen!
