Moving Forward

‘Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results’ James 5:16.

Disobedience is at the root of every sin. The only way to undo the consequences of disobedience is to obey God and trust Him to make you guiltless. There are some sins that need to be confessed one to another before healing [moving forward] can occur. When you are married, you are responsible to God and to your spouse. When you sin sexually, you confess to God, repent, and seek forgiveness from God. But you have to confess to your spouse for healing. If you choose not to confess to your spouse then you will have to live with the effect on your marriage. Some men/women are scared that their spouse will use it against them for the rest of their lives. Well sometimes this is what you will have to live with but again you need to ask yourself are you going to obey God? What if he/she kicks you out of the house? But you know you have obeyed God. That is why you should not even try some things because you cannot move forward unless you confess to your spouse. For me the fact that I have to confess to God and to my wife keeps me in check. The cost of adultery is so enormous that it’s better not to even try it.

Again this is a very complex issue and no one expects you to deal with it alone. My advice is that you seek godly counsel immediately. Your marriage needs to make progress and you also need to make progress spiritually so stop covering it up. ‘He that covers his sins will not prosper’. Your spouse will be angry but God will help him/her. Your spouse will go through a tough period but they will come out of it and God will make your marriage stronger. However, there are cases where the spouse is unwilling to bear the pain of the betrayal and they opt out of the marriage. There is nothing anyone can do, that’s why you should not do it in the first place. The price is too heavy. This is why God says that if you commit the sin of adultery, you have sinned against yourself and remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, heal every marriage that is dealing with the pain of infidelity. Heal man and wife and make their marriage stronger, in Jesus Name.
