Reveal It!
Psalm 34:17-18 “Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.” (MSG)
One of the things we tend to do when we are going through an emotionally challenging time is to hide our hurt. We put up a ‘good face’ in church, at home, and amongst friends – a façade! When people ask, ‘How are you doing?’, you respond, ‘I am good!’ Meanwhile, you are bleeding and dying inside. I pray that the time will come when we can all be really honest with how we feel and with the right people. Such that when they ask you, ‘How are you doing?’ You can say, ‘I am struggling’, if you are struggling. Or ‘I am in pain’, if you are in pain. Many of us are on autopilot, ‘How are you doing?’, ‘Fine!’ The answer is not necessarily fine. Do not hide your hurt with the right people. Psalm 39:2-3 “So I kept very quiet… but I became even more upset. I became very angry inside, and as I thought about it, my anger burned…” (NCV)
The more you bottle-up, the more you get upset. Just like a bottle of coke soda that you keep shaking, after a while, it is going to pop. And a lot of you are at the point of popping even right now. Do not cover your hurt. Reveal your hurt. David is saying in Psalm 32:3 “When I kept things to myself, I felt weak deep inside me. I moaned all day long.” (NCV). Holding onto hurt is like carrying coals, it will burn you and burn your heart. Reveal your hurt because hidden wounds do not heal, they only fester and become toxic. One of the lies I have seen play out is people hide their wounds and say, time will heal the wound. I have also heard people tell this lie to others that time heals all wounds. Time does not heal wounds, God heals wounds.
God heals wounds and we need to understand that sometimes He does it over time. Do not cover your wounds. Some would respond by swallowing the pain or stomaching the pain. How can you keep stomaching hurt, poison, hot coals? When you swallow your hurt after a while you will discover that your stomach is keeping score and it cannot handle it anymore. Some try to run from hurt. Do not run, reveal it. Do not cover it up, reveal it. Unfortunately, when we are hurt by people, we mostly blame ourselves. Pastor Rick Warren says, and I agree that “Revealing your feeling is the beginning of healing”. You have to be honest about how you feel, reveal it. You are going to experience transformation in your emotions in the Name of Jesus. You are going to experience metamorphosis in the Name of Jesus. You need to be emotionally sound and ready to take advantage of opportunities that will arise in this Decade of Destiny.
Prayer: Father, You are the balm in Gilead, heal every ache, pain, hurt, and brokenness in me, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
