Three, Four
Proverbs 11:25 “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (NIV).
The third of nine rewards that God promises to give you if you live a generous life is God Promises He Will Bless Your Work And Business. Are you an entrepreneur or a professional? God is saying if you are generous, He will bless your work and your business. Proverbs 3:9 “Honour the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, then your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will overflow with the finest wine.” (LB & NLT, emphasis added). Back in the day when a farmer has had a good harvest, his barn will be visibly full to the brim and anyone that walks by can see that this farmer has had a good harvest. Barns and vats are common to the agrarian culture. It may be difficult for us to relate. So, let’s bring it home. What do barns signify in our time? What are vats that overflow with oil and wine?
They represent the proceeds of our businesses and work. Vats and barns represent your business, your work, your career, your investment, and how you make a living. So, you could say your bank account will overflow (say Amen). You could say your investments will be profitable. You could say your career will make progress. This principle I am sharing with you is something that, by the grace of God, I have worked consistently, and I have seen the result in my life. Proverbs 11:25 “The generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, And he who waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown].” (AMP). God is saying when you are generous, He will see to it that you prosper, and are refreshed.
The fourth of nine rewards: God Promises You Will Be Happier. When you are generous with your substance, God promises that you will be happier. Everyone who is generous knows this experience. When I give people things, I feel very happy. If you don’t, I will tell you what to do to solve that problem. Acts 20:35 “…remembering the words that the Lord Jesus himself said, ‘There is more happiness in giving than in receiving.’” (GNT, emphasis added). Think about it, how do you feel if let’s say you get a credit alert on your phone of five million naira?
It almost doesn’t matter how rich you are, if you get a five-million-naira credit alert on your phone as a gift, you should be happy. Well, I would be happy. Now, how would you feel when you gift five million naira to someone? Jesus is saying you should feel happier when you are the one who sent the gift than when you are the one who received the gift.
Prayer: Father, I decree that I will be a source of blessing to nations, in Jesus Name. Amen!
