Brain Workout
Isaiah 54:2-3 “Clear lots of ground for your tents! Make your tents large. Spread out! Think big! Use plenty of rope, and drive the tent pegs deep, because you will grow in all directions. Your children will take over many nations and live in the cities that were destroyed.” (MSG & ERV)
The second thing that stretches your mind is The Conversations You Have. Have you noticed that when you have conversations with certain people, it is like a light bulb comes on in your mind? Why? It is because your mind has just been expanded, and your perspective has been broadened. You are the average of the three people you spend the most time with. And that is because they are the people you talk to the most. They are the people you have conversations with the most. So, you begin to think like they think. Check, who are the three people you spend the most time with? If they are high-capacity thinkers, conversations with them will stretch your mind. Have you noticed that high-capacity thinkers always do things that you do not understand? If you are humble and teachable, it inadvertently stretches your mind.
The third thing that stretches your mind is Learning Something New. When you learn something new, you are stretching your mind. You are making beautiful new connections in your brain. Your mind is being exercised and becoming stronger. Learn something new. Learn a new language. Teach your children your language. They say that toddlers can learn up to six languages at the same time, and they will not mix it up. This just shows how powerfully the brains of children are wired. Your brain was like that when you were that age. You did not lose it. You just need to be more deliberate now that you have grown older.
Learn how to play a new musical instrument, play a different musical instrument. But Pastor, I am neither a musician nor a professional. Learn to play the keyboard, it will rewire your brain. By the time you get into the office, your colleagues will know something has changed about you. You will be able to articulate and express certain things excellently, because music is actually a language. You will be able to articulate certain protocols, because that neural pathway has been formed. Your brain is undergoing training. You may be a medical doctor, but guess what? Some of the best medical doctors are musicians.
David was a king, but he was also a musician. He could play music. Music is very powerful. Learn it. Pastor, am I not too old? No, you are not. Eighty-year-olds are learning new things. Are you eighty years old yet? If you are, then that is a confirmation that you can learn a new thing.
Prayer: Father, help me to be more deliberate about the people I connect with. I ask for the courage and strength to learn new things consistently, in Jesus Name. Amen!
