It Is Time

Hebrews 5:¹¹ “About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. I have a lot more to say …but it may be hard for you to follow since you’ve become dull in your understanding.” (ESV & The Voice)

Yesterday, we delved into things that cause deafness. The first is Hardness of Heart. The second is Pride. And the third cause of deafness that we will explore is the Lack of Spiritual Growth. Some people just refuse to grow spiritually. When they came to Christ ten years ago, they were gossiping. They were still gossiping five years ago. And now, they have become the chief gossip of Africa because, as of last week, they were still gossiping. When will you grow? For some people, ten years ago, when they came to Christ, their anger could boil water. As of five years ago, their anger was still boiling water. And as of last week, their anger is boiling crude oil. Something is wrong with that. It ought to be, old things have passed away.

My daughter asked me why I sometimes say some gibberish. Sometimes, when I am upset, I can say something like, “You are a complanplu!” or “You are a konkonbility!” I use words that mean nothing. She says, “What does complanplu mean? I said, “I don’t know”. She says, “But you just called me a complanplu”. I said, “Exactly because I don’t want to say horrible things to you.” This is a stopgap I came up with. Maybe, when I grow up and someone offends me, I will not say anything. But I am not there yet. However, I have moved away from cursing people out and from using the B, S, and F words. When I say, “You are konkonbility”, it lightens the mood. Konkonbility doesn’t mean anything. But it allows me to vent.

So, you have to make progress. Hebrews 5:^11-12 “Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to listen. For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food.” (AMP). Dull of hearing also means sluggish, slow, deaf in hearing spiritual things. There is a time you ought to have grown to teach other people.

Time is a big factor in the things of God. Hebrews 5:¹² “…It’s almost like you’re a baby again, cuddled at your mother’s breast, nursing, not ready for solid food.” (The Voice). No one can give you meat because you cannot chew it. You do not have teeth. Why? You are still stuck on baby stuff because you are hard of hearing. But when you grow, you can hear. And the instructions you are hearing will improve, the fellowship you are having will graduate.
