Heart Check VI

David replied to Abigail, “Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you to meet me today! Thank God for your good sense! Bless you for keeping me from murder and from carrying out vengeance with my own hands’ 1 Sam.25:32-33.

David had a Listening heart. I urge you to please read 1 Samuel 25 it is an amazing story. There was a wealthy man called Nabal. He had sheep, goats, cattle, and all sorts of livestock. In the wilderness, David met Nabal’s men and provided security for them. When he heard Nabal was shearing his sheep, David sent his boys to Nabal to congratulate him and ask him to share provisions with them. Now think about it, imagine you park your car in a general car park. By the time you get back, the car has been washed and the young men who are responsible ask you for a tip. That was what David was doing here. And Nabal responded, “Who is this fellow David?” Nabal sneered to the young men. “Who does this son of Jesse think he is? There are lots of servants these days who run away from their masters.  Should I take my bread and my water and my meat that I’ve slaughtered for my shearers and give it to a band of outlaws who come from who knows where?1 Sam.25:10-11. Nabal insulted David. When David’s men told him what Nabal said, David told his men to pick up their swords and he strapped on his own sword. And he said, ‘if there remains a man in Nabal’s house today, let God kill me’ and he set out with his men. But a woman intercepted him. A woman can either save your life or end it. Nabal had a wife called Abigail. The Bible says when Abigail head, she wasted no time. She saddled her donkey, took provisions and went to intercept David. She fell on his feet and begged David saying, “don’t do this, don’t reduce yourself to the level of this fool. Nabal is his name, folly is in his bosom. As his name is, so he is. You are a king. Everything that God has said about you will come to pass. You will be king over Israel”. As it is said, it is what you address in a man that will come out. Nabal addressed the vagabond in David and David was determined to show him that he was the number one vagabond. Abigail addressed the king in David and the king came out. David listened to Abigail. David had a listening heart. I am praying today that God will give you a listening heart that will keep you from avenging yourself, in Jesus Name.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, teach my heart to listen to the heart of the Father. Lord, please give me a listening, wise, and obedient heart, in Jesus Name.
