Heart Check XI

“And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple’ 1Chr.29:3

A Giving heart. David had a giving heart. David wanted to build a temple for the Lord. David was seeking to do for God what God had not even demanded and that touched the heart of the Lord so much. Please read 2 Samuel 7. The king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” 2Sam.7:2. Which is why we must never forget where God has brought us from. David took it a step further from just being grateful; he wanted to give to the Lord. ‘This is what the Lord has declared: Are you the one to build a house for me to live in? I have never lived in a house, from the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until this very day. I have always moved from one place to another with a tent and a Tabernacle as my dwelling. Yet no matter where I have gone with the Israelites, I have never once complained to Israel’s tribal leaders, the shepherds of my people Israel. I have never asked them, “Why haven’t you built me a beautiful cedar house?”’ 2Sam.7:5-7. Yet even though God was pleased with what David had purposed in his heart to do, God said ‘No! You have too much blood on your hands. Your son will build the temple’. Many of us would have felt rejected by God, we would have felt bad, and some will even be upset. But not David, David did not sulk, he did not cry. Instead David said ‘I wont build the temple but I will provide for it’. Read 1 Chronicles 29:1-5. “And now, because of my devotion to the Temple of my God, I am giving all of my own private treasures of gold and silver to help in the construction. This is in addition to the building materials I have already collected for his holy Temple’ 1Chr.29:3. David actually gave from his own pocket everything that Solomon needed to build the temple. So he paid for the temple. Lets say a young man living abroad sends money to his brother living in Nigeria to help him build a house. When he comes back, who owns the house – the person that physically built it or the person that paid for it? So who built the temple? David! Using every resource at my command, I have gathered as much as I could for building the Temple of my God’ 1Chr.29:2. David had a giving heart.

Prayer: Father, give me a heart like David’s, a heart that gives even before You call for it, in Jesus Name
