His Charge
Matt.11:29 “Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
The advantage we gain in the place of prayer is liberty. Whereas we enter into God’s Presence bent under the weight of our burdens. We come out standing tall because we leave the burdens there. The story is told of a man who was driving along the road and saw an old woman carrying a very heavy load. So he decided to give her a ride and bring her some relief. But when he looked through his rear-view mirror, he saw the woman still carrying the load on her head. He parked the car immediately and ran to the back of the truck. “Why are you still carrying the load, Ma?” he asked her and she said, “Dear son, thank you for the ride. You are carrying me so let me carry the load”.
It is easy to read this story and laugh at the woman or even rule it out as ridiculous. But a lot of the time, that is how we are with God. He has saved you, so give Him your problems. He saved you and your problem together, don’t you understand? He is able to carry you and your load and solve the problem. The more we master the art of taking things to God and leaving it at His feet, the lighter we will be. Unfortunately, there are twenty year olds taking anti-depressants. And it is, as the song says, “All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer”.
Years ago, my wife and I found ourselves in an interesting situation. The rent was due and I just did not have the money. My wife was constantly reminding me, “the rent is due in six weeks”, “the rent is due in five weeks and two days”. Women are just amazing. I told her not to bring up the subject again. Paying the rent is my business and I will handle my business. She could not understand how I was able to sleep so peacefully at night when the rent had not been paid. What should I be doing? I have taken it to God. I am His boy and His boy’s rent is due. I have to let Him be God. We have never had the rent discussion again till this day. God sorted it out and has been sorting out our bills. Like I said, if you can do something about it, please do it. But if you cannot, then leave it with God and go to sleep. Go to sleep means be at peace and trust Him and you will be shocked at what God will do.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, in Your Presence today I exchange my load for Your liberty, my pains for Your joy, every unrest for Your peace and so shall it be, in Jesus Name. Amen!
