The Truth About Favour
‘A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity’ Prov.17:17 [NIV]
The reality of favour is that favour attracts attacks. ‘A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity’ Prov.17:17 [NIV]. Joseph’s bothers that were born for adversity hated him. Meaning Joseph was practically hopeless. Many times we wonder that if it is true we are favoured, then how come we are struggling here and there? The truth is that sometimes it is really because you are favoured that is why you are struggling. Look at Job; he was just on Read the rest of this entry
Get Comfortable
Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. So one day Jacob had a special gift made for Joseph—a beautiful robe’ Gen.37:3.
God’s word to us this morning is ‘Dare to dream again’. For some of us this word translates to ‘dare to dream at all’. But for some of us it is ‘dare to dream again’. ‘Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other children because Joseph had been born to him in his old age… But his brothers hated Joseph because their father loved him more than the rest of them. They couldn’t say a kind word to him.’ Gen.37:3-4. His brothers hated him so much they could not say a kind word to him. What Read the rest of this entry
Stay On The Wheel!
‘So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over’ Jer.18:3-4.
Let’s go back to the beginning but this time, let’s see what would have happened if things played out differently. The angels were marveling at God just speaking the words and the earth taking shape at His word. ‘Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us’ Gen.1:26. And at this point, the Almighty God bends down, takes dust, and begins to form it. And all the angels begin to speak at once in total amazement. ‘What is He doing? He has been calling forth everything but why is He picking up dust? He is going to get His hands dirty!’ But God is focused on the dust in the palm of His hands, Read the rest of this entry
Stay With God
“O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.’ Jer.18:6.
Today, we will continue in the discourse about the signs of hardness of heart. You know your heart is hard when your praise and worship is no longer by the tenderness of your heart towards God but rather it is about the adoration of men as you pretend to worship God. A typical example would be waiting till midnight when you know the neighborhood is quiet not to be with God but to sing loud enough for everyone to hear you and know that you are spiritual. It is when we would never have Read the rest of this entry
In Perspective
‘But the people replied, “Don’t waste your breath. We will continue to live as we want to, stubbornly following our own evil desires’ Jer.18:12.
In today’s scripture reference, these people had made up their minds that they will be hardened clay. Have you ever seen or heard of a potter work with hardened clay [set clay]? It is not possible. The potter will have to break the piece to work with it. It is like someone who says, ‘I am an adult, I can make up my own mind, what I want to do is what I want to do. Nobody should tell me what to do. I am not a baby. I am a full-grown man/woman’. Yes we know that; but that means you are not a Read the rest of this entry
Your Heart
‘The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!’ Deut.30:6.
Many of us have experienced those seasons where your heart questions ‘what is God doing? He is not answering prayers any more’. And it seems as though the wait is forever. Some of us opt to look for an alternative or better still do things ourselves. The truth? You are short changing yourself. David said, ‘I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed [his children] begging bread’. You and your children, and your children’s children will be taken care of by the Most High God in Jesus Read the rest of this entry
All Things Beautiful
‘Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end’ Ecc.3:11
Only the Potter can see what He is working out in you from beginning to end. Can the potter make a piece of pottery without the wheel? Not at all. Even if the wheel just seems to be going in cycles, the Potter needs it to make the beautiful you that He has conceived in His mind. Again I urge you to stay on the Potter’s wheel. When the challenges of life come, stay in the Maker’s hands because He is crafting something beautiful with your life. It is not about the comfort of life; it is not about the Read the rest of this entry
Established Value
‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago’ Eph.2:10.
Clay really is just worthless dust. Its value is the value that the Creator, the Maker gives to it. One potter can decide to sell his work for five million that is the value he has placed on the work. While another other potter can choose to sell his work for five hundred that is the value he has placed on it. Our value is established in the hands of the Living God.
‘So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel’ Jer.18:3. The potter’s wheel in this story can be likened to life. Life just seems to go in cycles. January, February, March, April, May, June, July, and so on then it starts all over. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and so on then it starts all over. Then the fashion of the 90’s is the fashion of the 70’s. Things just seem to go in cycles and at times it seems like you have seen it all before. For us, as clay in the hands of the Potter, it is not about time passing or the cycles. It is about who you become, what you become, the experiences, the things you should learn as God is taking you through life, and how you respond. Plus how you mature irrespective of the fact that certain things in life are in cycles. Every potter has a wheel and the wheel does not have a mind of its own. The wheel is controlled by the potter – its rotation, the speed, everything. Just as seasons and time are in the Almighty God’s hand, so also are our lives in God’s hand. The wheel’s job is just to go round and around like life. Life seems endless sometimes and the older you get, the more things seem to repeat themselves. We don’t always like the way life turns out and we want to have deep endless conversations with God about life. But He is the One who is molding us as we go through life. He is the One who is creating something of excellent value as we go through life. So my advice is to stay on the wheel. Many times the experiences we have had in life want to take us away from God, make us feel like there is nothing new. The reality is that God is using your experiences, He is using the time, He is using the things that you think don’t matter, to mold you into something beautiful. Read the rest of this entry
Be Wise
‘There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears’ Phil.1:6 [MSG].
The Potter is never in a hurry to finish one piece and move unto the next one. The Potter has a timetable for every piece, a timetable for the thoughts and plans He has for it. He is concerned about the future functionality of that piece and its durability. So, even when others think the work is complete or the clay itself is asking to be taken off the wheel, He knows to slow it down and take a look at it from all sides. What is He looking for? He is looking for cracks, air bubbles, and Read the rest of this entry
True Worth
‘So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them’ Gen.1:27.
I was checking on eBay for what people are willing to pay for clay and I saw a set of ceramic oranges being auctioned for $8,000. Someone also mentioned that he had seen a piece that sold for as much as $32,000. The reality is that clay itself is worthless. It is the worth that the potter inputs unto the work that gives it value. The clay itself cannot derive value, except the value that the potter attributes to it. The same goes for you; on your own you can do nothing. Jesus says, ‘without Me you Read the rest of this entry
