His Forte

Rom.4:17 “That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.” (emphasis added)

Creating new things out of nothing is God’s specialty. But guess what? The same way God creates new things out of nothing for His children. He creates new things out of nothing against His enemies and the enemies of Read the rest of this entry

Fuel & Sacrifice

1 Kings 18:33-35 “…Then he said, “Fill four large jars with water, and pour the water over the offering and the wood.” .…“Do the same thing again!” “…Now do it a third time!” So they did as he said, and the water ran around the altar and even filled the trench.” (emphasis added).

God never determines what He will do by the scarcity of resources. God determines what He will do and He does it in spite of the scarcity. When Elijah kept requesting for more and more water, I can imagine what Ahab Read the rest of this entry

No Limits

1 kings 18:30 “Then Elijah called to the people, “Come over here!” They all crowded around him as he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down” (emphasis added).

Yesterday, we began to examine the stone – one of the components Elijah used to build an altar to God. In altar building, the stone represents the heart. It is important to note that when God asks for stones to build an altar, Read the rest of this entry

No Match

Ex.15:11 (ERV) “Are there any gods like the Lord? No, there are no gods like you—you are wonderfully holy! You are amazingly powerful!  You do great miracles!

This is Baal – 1 Kings 18:26-28 “So they prepared one of the bulls and placed it on the altar. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning until noontime, shouting, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no reply of any kind. Then they danced, hobbling around the altar they had made. Checks & Balances

2 Tim.3:16-17 (NIV) “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Anything you leave man to navigate in his own wisdom, man will abuse. God knows this, so He puts checks and balances in place. God says, ‘wives submit to your husbands‘. Read the rest of this entry

Common

1 Cor.10:13 (Voice) “Any temptation you face will be nothing new. But God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can handle. But He always provides a way of escape so that you will be able to endure and keep moving forward.”

Do not specialize your problem because it is not special. The challenge is we try to specialize our problems by suggesting that we are being afflicted. God is saying to us today through Paul that we have no excuse, Read the rest of this entry

Love Unconditional

Eph.2:4-5 “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) (emphasis added)

Imagine a reckless driver doing one hundred and twenty kilometres per hour on a road with a speed limit of fifty kilometres per hour. In his recklessness, he knocks down and kills a little boy. Read the rest of this entry

Grace= Mercy + Favour

Eph.2:4-5 (NRSV) “But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” (emphasis added)

Eph.2:4 (NRSV, emphasis added) “But God, who is rich in mercy…”  What is mercy? Mercy is not getting what you deserve. Does anyone go to bed praying and pleading for God’s judgment in their lives? Read the rest of this entry

ALL

Rom. 3:23-25 (NKJV) “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness…”(emphasis added).

For the past two days, we have been looking at the four P’s of sin and how they affect us. The four P’s of sin are – the penalty of sin, the power of sin, the pollution of sin and the presence of sin. Read the rest of this entry

Sanctified

1Jn.1:8 (NRSV) “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”

If we fail to recognize our sin nature, we will not appreciate what Christ did for us at Calvary. Therefore, we need to know how sin and transgression affect us. I call them the P’s of the effect of sin Read the rest of this entry
