For What You Do

‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted’ Matt.5:4 [NIV].

You are blessed for what you do. The first thing that Jesus did with the beatitudes is to shatter the false understanding that a person can be saved without being changed. So the theory that people propound that once you are saved there is really no fruit that should be expected from you is false. They propose that Jesus paid it all so you can sleep with whoever you want to sleep with, abuse whoever you want to abuse, be as filthy as you like but just plead the blood of Jesus and you would be fine. Jesus debunks that lie Read the rest of this entry

Not Without Commitment

I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’ Job.31:1

Job was so committed to purity that he ‘made a covenant with [his] eyes not to look with lust at a young woman’. Even though Jesus had not physically walked the earth at that time, Job knew that the issue of purity goes beyond actually sleeping with a woman. Job did not need anyone to tell him that just by looking lustfully at a woman he has committed adultery. When you walk with God, you know these things. Pornography is even far off but they did Read the rest of this entry

Offering Compassion

‘There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others but if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you’ James 2:13.

Unfortunately, some people think that the mercy of God is a license for sin. The truth is when you truly experience the mercy of God you would not want to touch sin again. God said to Moses, ‘if you are to describe me then say I am the Lord compassionate, merciful, slow to anger, plenteous in mercy, I will not always chide neither will I keep my anger for ever’. God wants to be known as merciful. The problem with us is if God that has every right to judge Read the rest of this entry

Being Christ-like

Blessed (happy, blithesome, joyous, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long-suffering), for they shall inherit the earth!’ Matt.5:5 [AMP]

Some years ago, my wife and I were staying in a particular house and we had both good neighbors and ‘funny’ neighbors. We all know it’s easier to be friendly to the good neighbors and be not so friendly to the ‘funny’ neighbors. But knowing what God expects of us drove us to go the extra mile to be nice to the ‘funny’ neighbors. There was this particular neighbor who consistently met our attempts to be warm and neighborly with an ice cold Read the rest of this entry

Take Your Stand!

‘When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak of his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future’ John 16:13

‘But Micaiah replied, “As surely as the Lord lives, I will say only what the Lord tells me to say’ 1 kings 22:14. The people around you cannot continue in sin and yet you are telling them that all will be well with them. There is definitely something wrong with that. Who do you want to please –God or people? I want to please God! You need to take your stand today because people will come to you offering you all sorts of things just so that you can doctor Read the rest of this entry

Not Without Commitment

‘He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations’ Ps.105:8.

To make progress in any endeavor, you have to be committed. Without commitment, there can never be progress. The truth is that nothing happens outside commitment. In order to make progress in any area of your life you require commitment. If you do not commit to your education, you cannot go anywhere no matter how much your family invests. As a young man if you do not commit to the woman you love that relationship cannot go anywhere. If you are a young man interested in a Read the rest of this entry

The Priest

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truthIsa.38:19 [KJV]

The father is the priest. Priests are custodians of God’s Word and law. The father should be the custodian of the Word and should teach it to the children. ‘The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truthIsa.38:19 [KJV]. The father is the priest and runs the priesthood. Of course the mother too can teach the Word of God. Yet the fathers are the custodians of the priesthood. Priests, apart from being custodians of the Word of God, are responsible for sacrifices and all the Read the rest of this entry

Jesus Needs Your Lunch!

Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it… He also divided the fish for everyone to share’ Mark 6:41

Where is this boy?’ This is the first thought that runs through her mind as she glances out the window at the setting sun. And then as though to answer her question, she sees her little boy skipping playfully up the road. ‘Yet who are these men carrying baskets behind him and where is his lunch box?’ So she washes the soap off her hands and heads out the door to get answers to the questions on her mind. The little boy comes running toward his mother as usual but even he cannot help noticing that her hug is not as long and snugly Read the rest of this entry

Submitted To God I

‘Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you’ James 4:7[KJV].

To have liberty without responsibility is bondage [self-bondage]. Then the people become what the Bible calls lawful captives – legal captives. Liberty is not enough, God wants you and I to be free. For us to walk in real freedom, five things must be in place. This list is not exhaustive but these five things must be in place for us to really walk in the liberty that God has for us. Sustained By Responsibility

‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls’ Matt.11:28-29.

We are born with an innate desire to be free. A little boy will refuse help from his parents because he wants to be free to wear his shoes the way he wants even though he will mix them up. With teenagers the desire becomes very pungent and most times it is expressed in the desire to break every rule. We try to push our boundaries here and there even at work. It is that innate desire to be free that pushes us to celebrate Friday’s [TGIF]. Unfortunately when we step out of the bounds God has put around us in order to be free sometimes we end Read the rest of this entry
