Choose Light
‘For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!’ Eph.5:8
Today’s devotional is inspired by a story, a parable if you will; two young boys, Bob and James, cousins. Bob was born and has lived all his formative years abroad. He is accustomed to uninterrupted power supply, this is what he knows. James on the other hand, was born and has lived all his formative years in Nigeria. James knows what it is to go three weeks without power supply. And as the story goes, Bob and his father came to visit. At dinner on their first Read the rest of this entry
Are You Available?
‘…And from then on this disciple took her into his home’ John19:27b
Many have deliberated over why Jesus chose to commit His mother into Johns care. He had siblings, at least we know of two that were also used mightily by God – and Jude. Why not Peter, who was always so eager to run towards the Master? Others speculate that if He had entrusted Peter with His mother, Peter would have abandoned her and gone fishing. We cannot judge if there was a better option. However, the answer to this question is quoted in Read the rest of this entry
Seventh Words
‘And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend My Spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost’. Luke 23:46[KJV]
‘Father, I entrust My Spirit into your hands’, the seventh words are words of reunion with the Father. Jesus started the work on the cross calling Him Father and ended the work on the cross still calling Father. ‘Unto your hands I commit my Spirit’, meaning Jesus was very aware of the activity of His Spirit and He
Best Foot Forward
‘The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness’ Ex.34:6
It is human nature, when you are asked about yourself, to put your best foot forward. The ‘tell us about yourself’ question is very common at job interviews. When asked, people usually tell you only the good things about themselves. All of us have a part of our lives that we are ashamed of and do not want anyone to know about. It is human nature to put our best foot forward. Sadly, a lot of Read the rest of this entry
Personalize Him
‘The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety’ Ps.18:2
God does not just want to be the Alpha and Omega to you, He desires to be your Alpha and Omega. It is impossible to have God to yourself alone but you can choose to personalize your every interaction with Him. Personalize His Word, personalize His praise and worship. Paul admonishes us to look for every opportunity to sing to God from our heart. Do not just call Him God, call Read the rest of this entry
Unbroken Link
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Matt.27:36
What must I do to put my relationship with God intact? ‘Jesus replied, you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the
Purpose in Pain
‘Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock’. Matt.7:25
The pain you experience, God has allowed it for a purpose. However, many of us get too engrossed in the pain and allow it to make us bitter whereas God is saying ‘the pain is supposed to draw you closer to Me’. God is set to use the pain for your good and reveal a dimension of Him that you have been hearing
The Womb of Adversity
‘God replied to Moses, I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you’. Ex.3:14
When you examine the revelations of God throughout scripture, a lot of these revelations were birthed in the womb of adversity. Every Christian encounters adversity at one point or the other of his/her work with God, as did the prophets in the bible, which births a new or deeper revelation of God in us. You
Propagating the Kingdom
He said to them “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Mark.16:15 (NASB)
God uses the vehicle of the church to spread the Good News. The church is not a house; a lot of us believe that the church is the place of worship. The truth is that we are the church and we meet in a building. The church is not an organization, it is an organism. God will use you and I to propagate the Kingdom. You must evaluate the people around you to see who those close to Read the rest of this entry
God’s Kingdom
Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in earth’Luke11:2b [NLT]
The Good News is about the Kingdom [Matt.4:23]. Jesus came to preach the Good News and establish God’s Kingdom in the hearts of men here on earth. When Jesus sent out the disciples, He told them to go and preach the Kingdom of God to everyone. The word Kingdom is derived from two words, King and Domain. The word Kingdom implies that there is a King and that King has an Read the rest of this entry
