Unto Thyself Be True I
‘For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night’ Ps.51:3
The fourth thing we need to know about sin is that sin shuts your mouth. You may attempt to sing praises to God and the accuser would refresh your mind about your sin. You can’t praise God. Picture this, David picks up his harp and begins to sing a Psalm unto the Lord and the enemy whispers “Uriah”. David’s lips become sealed. David goes to the balcony and just as he is about to sing another Psalm unto the Lord the Read the rest of this entry
Seek Restoration
‘Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice’ Ps.51:8 [NIV].
Levi paid tithe way before God instituted tithe as a law. Some people kill themselves that tithe is the law and we are not under the law. In my opinion, that is just being clueless. David did not say because iniquity was wired into him therefore he has to remain that way. That is the problem with our generation; we blame our parents for everything. I was abused as a child that’s why I am like this. Have you heard Read the rest of this entry
Generational Consequences
‘For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me’ Ps.51:3 [NIV]
The second thing we need to know is that sin in the parents becomes iniquity in the children. Parenting is such a powerful thing. If parents choose to disobey God, it becomes iniquity in the children. The root word for iniquity is crookedness. In other words, crookedness becomes wired into the children. So what the parents choose to do in disobeying God, the children do it by default. So if the parent chooses to lie, Read the rest of this entry
Be Repentant
‘Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar” Ps.51:19 [NIV].
God has already made provision for salvation for all mankind but repentance [action, faith] is man’s own end of things. Repentance is so crucial every Christian must understand it and operate it. And there’s no one that is best suited to teach us about repentance than David. David existed in the Old Testament but because of his relationship with God, he operated as a New Testament believer. He knew that God did not Read the rest of this entry
By Grace
‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God’ Eph.2:8 [KJV].
Lets examine the big picture of where repentance actually sits in seeking God and praying as it relates to the tabernacle. The tabernacle has three sections; the outer court, the inner court, and the holy of holies each section is separated with a veil. The outer court consists of the brazen altar, brazen lava; the inner court consists of the golden lampstand with seven branches, the table of shewbread, and the altar of Read the rest of this entry
A Shift
‘The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise’ Ps.51:17 [NKJV].
Over the next few days we are going to be learning True Repentance from the heart of David. David demonstrated true repentance in Psalm 51. Interestingly this is one of the Psalms that my grandmother made us memorize by repetition. My grandmother is illiterate so we had to memorize it in our dialect. I would encourage you to memorize Psalm 51 in your dialect; it is very powerful. There were points when Read the rest of this entry
God’s Masterpiece
‘For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago’ Eph.2:10.
Finally don’t ever forget that God is making a masterpiece out of your life. The clay derives its value from the creativity of the Potter. Your value is not based on how good looking you are, or how wealthy you are, or how ugly you are. Your value is based on how creative and awesome your God is. Feeling that you are not valuable is casting aspersions at your creator. If you define yourself by what has happened Read the rest of this entry
Blessed
“You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you’ Matt.5:4 [MSG]
The sixth thing we must not forget is the beatitudes. We learnt that blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of God. Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. With each of the beatitudes, Jesus was firing rounds of bullets into the heads of two monsters. The first monster that Jesus was dealing with is the false understanding that a person can be saved without being changed. Jesus was debunking the idea that you can be saved without being changed. You can’t be changed Read the rest of this entry
He Is Lord!
‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father’ Phil.2:10-11 [KJV]
The fifth thing you must remember is the supremacy of Jesus. In fact we must never forget this. There are a lot of religions in the world, a lot of ‘masters’ and ‘prophets’ so to speak. But Jesus is superior to them all. Jesus single handedly stands in between history and the future. Everything that happened before Him is B.C and everything that happened after Him is A.D. He is the most important person in Read the rest of this entry
Locating Oil
‘Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you [of sale value] in the house? She said, Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil’ 2 kings 4:2 [AMP]
Still on the oil principle, the second thing you must remember is that the solution is easily disdained [ignored]. The widow said ‘I have nothing at all except for this worthless flask of oil’ [translated]. So how can you locate your oil? Simple, your oil must be something that will be of value to men and glorify God. Fraud is not of value and it does not glorify God so it cannot be your oil. In locating your oil, the Read the rest of this entry
