Ultimate Purpose

‘Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the ageMatt.28:20.

The highest purpose of your calling, regardless of where you have been called to work or serve, is to lead people to God. Your ultimate purpose is to connect people to Christ Jesus. This simply means that the new level, or business, or promotion, or community that God has brought you into, God has given you, or God is leading you into, is to bring people to God. Your ultimate purpose as a child of God is to help people find God and to connect people to Christ. The stakes are too high and the implications are eternal. You cannot afford to ignore the instruction ‘go and make disciples’. You may only be one conversation away from connecting someone to Jesus. Only one conversation away and if that conversation doesn’t happen the stakes are eternal. The person is faced with eternity without God and you will agree that those are pretty high stakes. You have to break the ice.

God was the first one ever to break the ice. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve sinned by doing what God told them not to do. God came and covered them and at that point God promised that the seed of the woman was going to bruise the head of the serpent. This was a prophetic word about the coming of Jesus. All the years between when the prophetic word was released and when the prophecy was fulfilled were silent. There were a lot of attempts to find God. Then God picked up a man called Abraham and told him that He was going to make a nation from him. Abraham was going to be the father of nations and through him all the families of the earth will be blessed. And God raised the nation of Israel and several prophets emerged – the Old Testament. Between the Old Testament and the New Testament was the period called the dark years. Four hundred years, or there about, of silence, if my theology is right; then God broke the ice and Jesus came into the world. The angels announced, ‘I bring you good tidings of great joy for unto you today a Saviour is born’. God is the master icebreaker. It was God who initiated breaking the ice.

Prayer: Precious Spirit of Christ, give me a burden for making disciples, in Jesus Name.
