Most Assuredly

“The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may the Lord be with you!” 1 Sam.17:37

Our forth response to God’s goodness is we face the future with confidence. God is going to round up this year for you with His goodness. That should give you confidence to face the coming year with the utmost confidence. Some people will devote themselves to complaining and nursing fears about the year that is about to end. It is because they are not devoting time to acknowledging God’s goodness. Once you can acknowledge the goodness of God, it emboldens you to face the future with confidence. God said, I will hold you even in old age; even in old age you will still be fruitful. The goodness of God boosts our confidence to face the future; because Jesus is alive, we can face tomorrow.

God says to people that He walks with, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”. Why does He do that? He does that to show us that He has been good to Abraham, good to Isaac, and good to Jacob. He does that to show us His track record of goodness. God is saying to you and I today, I will be good to you. When God is revealing Himself to the new generation, He goes back to the generation of the people He has had a Covenant with. And He is saying, look at how Abraham ended, look at Isaac and even Jacob ended. The Bible recorded that Abraham was great, Isaac was very great, Jacob the Bible says was exceedingly great. If Abraham was great, Isaac was great, Jacob was exceedingly great and He goes all the way to Jesus. Jesus was exceedingly, exceedingly, exceedingly great. Then what do you think your own story will be? Exponentially great! I mean you come from the lineage of Abraham through Christ so face the future with confidence.

The goodness of God makes us face the future with confidence. David was about to face goliath in battle but here was Saul trying to convince him that he was just a small boy. But David said something totally profound, even though he was a small boy. He said, the lion came and I killed it, the bear came and I killed it, that same God that delivered the lion and the bear into my hands will deliver this uncircumcised Philistine into my hand. David was saying, because God was good with the lion and the bear, God will be good in taking out this goliath. The goodness of God boosts our confidence to take hold of the unknown future. And it is so important that we stop and check, and be grateful to God because our future depends on it.

Prayer [song]: I have confidence in You, Jesus. I have confidence in You, Saviour. I have confidence in You, Jehovah. Amen
