What Will It Be?

When Elisha was in his last illness, King Jehoash of Israel visited him and wept over him. “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” he cried2kings 13:14.

The pain of every leader is to look back and not find anyone following. The pain of every leader is to look back and not find anyone willing to pay the price necessary for leadership. This was a pain that Elisha was familiar with. He looked back at his life and the only son of the prophet that came close was Gehazi. Gehazi had the opportunity to collect a double portion or even a quadruple portion of the anointing but instead he collected leprosy. And it is because Gehazi would consistently analyze Elisha’s decision-making process and conclude that it is not for him, until he got leprosy. Elisha had gotten to a point in his life that everything he had was going to waste because there was no one fit for the responsibility. The fact that there is a need does not mean God is going to be prodigal with resources. I hope this makes sense to you.

And along came the king saying – “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” And Elisha must have said in his heart, ‘Finally Lord, if I do not impact this anointing on a prophet, at least I will impact it on a king’. Elisha assumed that everyone that wants the anointing would roll up their sleeves and pay the requisite price. To pay the price, you must be able to tune into God and go beyond what your leader tells you to what God is saying. Guess what? Your leader will not tell you everything. It is part of the training. My spiritual father did not tell me everything but I got it. And when I got it he smiled and acknowledged that I had gotten it. Elijah did not tell Elisha everything but Elisha got it.

[Please read 2 kings 2:1-14]. Part of the keys to getting the anointing is, you must be able to discern God’s will and go beyond what you have been taught and told. And then connect to the spirit of the matter and get what you want from God. Elisha said to the king, “strike!” but he did not tell him how many times. The challenge was that the king took a single portion vessel to collect a double portion anointing. The Elisha’s of this world will take a double portion vessel to collect a single portion anointing and demand that the anointing be multiplied. That is the difference!

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me connect to God’s heart at all times so that I will go beyond what I have been told and taught and pay the requisite price, in Jesus Name.
