By The Spirit II

1Cor.12:31But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces) …” (AMPC)

Yesterday, we looked at the gifts of the Word of Wisdom and the Word of Knowledge enumerated in  1Cor.12:8. I cannot count the number of times or the number of people that have walked into my office wondering how I knew certain things, secret things. “If not that my wife and I discussed this on our way to church and we came in the same car. In His Service

1 Cor.12:4-5 “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” (emphasis added).

It is so important for us to understand that spiritual gifts are for service, for the benefit of others. So, these spiritual gifts we have been given, we have received, and we have activated is not about you or me. Read the rest of this entry

Be Well-versed

1 Cor.12:4-5 “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” (emphasis added).

Over the next few days, we will be examining an aspect of the Holy Spirit that is so fundamental and pivotal to our faith. It is also an aspect that perhaps a lot of Christians really do not understand. However, to be all that God had called us to be as Christians, we need to understand the aspect of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is fundamental to our faith. Read the rest of this entry

In His Name, I

Ps. 30:4 (NKJV) “Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.”

If someone knows your qualifications [you have BSE, MSE, Ph.D., PhD+, PhD++], does it mean the person knows you? He or she may know what you are capable of – faster than Usain Bolt, stronger than Hulk, can defeat Mohammed Ali. Those are just your attributes but that is not your person. Doting

Acts 2:2-5 “Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit… “

We sometimes mistake the symbols of the Holy Spirit for the Person of the Holy Spirit. The symbols are important because they show us the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Fire is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit is not fire. As a symbol, fire characterizes His cleansing, consuming, purifying, illuminating nature. But the Holy Spirit is not fire. Advantage III

John 14:16-18, & 20 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth… No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. …I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

The fifth benefit of the Holy Spirit is, The Holy Spirit Gives Life To Our Physical Body. The Holy Spirit does not just give spiritual life, He makes you strong and powerful in your physical body just like Samson. Judges 15:14As Samson arrived at Lehi, the Philistines came shouting in triumph. But the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon Samson, and he snapped the ropes on his arms as if they were burnt strands of flax, and they fell from his wrists.” Read the rest of this entry

Advantage I

John 7:37-38On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

I remember years ago; I was in Northern Nigeria for over a year or thereabout. One day, I was speaking to a group of students, telling them about the Holy Spirit. They had a lot of questions like I did. Read the rest of this entry

Thirsty?

John 7:37-38 “On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

The Holy Spirit is the person of God Himself. Believers in the Old Testament obviously had the Holy Spirit in certain measures, and they had certain encounters with the Holy Spirit. Read the rest of this entry

The Manifestation

Isa.33:24 (NIV) No one living in Zion will say, “I am ill”; and the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.”

Saul came into the company of prophets, and Saul not because he was a prophet, but because of the governing prophetic anointing, he began to prophesy. Read the rest of this entry

Common Good

James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

When God instructs us not to forsake the fellowship of the brethren, it is for our own benefit. There is healing in community, we are better together. If you fall ill, do not isolate yourself; Read the rest of this entry
