Your Duty
“Joshua sent some of his men from Jericho to spy out the town of Ai, east of Bethel, near Beth-aven. When they returned, they told Joshua, “There’s no need for all of us to go up there… Since there are so few of them” Josh.7:2-3
When this season is over, everything that was holding you back from Standing Tall would have lost its grip totally. You are going to Stand Tall, shoulder high in every phase of your life. You are going Stand Tall in your industry, your country, your family, and in your life.
Please read Joshua 7:2-13. This is a strong word but it is the Word to do us good and to ensure that we have no defeat in any area of our lives. “Joshua sent some of his men from Jericho to spy out the town of Ai, east of Bethel, near Beth-aven” Josh.7:2 . In recorded history, Israel practically originated the system of spying. Israel was the first nation on earth to deploy the military intelligence of spying and the idea came from God [Num.13]. In fact, till date the Israeli intelligence [arguably] is the best in the world. Intelligence is crucial in waging war. God will still ask you to do the due diligence [go and spy the land] and you need to understand that about God. And as a leader, Joshua had to delegate that responsibility to the spies and await feedback.
You are a leader leading in your home, your business, your profession, and you are leading in this nation [say amen]. But as a leader you are responsible. You cannot hide under delegation, you should delegate but at the end of the day you are responsible. If your organization, your nation, or your family is going to rise or fall, it is going to be your responsibility not the responsibility of the spies. Why am I saying this? Obviously, it is a powerful lesson from Joshua 7:2-13. I have seen a lot of leaders that blame delegation for the failure of their business.
As a leader, no one expects you to do everything. You have to empower people to do things but you are responsible for the outcome. You have to understand the weight of that responsibility. Craig Groeschel puts it this way, “When you delegate tasks you create followers, when you delegate authority you create leaders”. Joshua delegated authority to the spies but he did not break the task down for them. But even though he did not do that, the result of the exercise is still Joshua’s responsibility. Do not wreck your business, your marriage, or your life. It is your call.
Confession: I am a leader and I am responsible.
Prayer: Lord, please deepen my sense of responsibility especially concerning that which You have called me to do and that which has been placed in my care, in Jesus Name.
