Just The Beginning

Zech.4:10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand” [emphasis added].

The plumb line is the tool of your trade. We all have a plumb line. What is your plumb line? Chalk would be the plumb line for someone who is a teacher. A doctor’s plumb line would probably the stethoscope. For people who are into software, their plumb line would most likely be their computer. God needs to see the plumb line your hands. The Bible says, “…the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line…”

The Bible says the Lord rejoices to see the plumb line in the hands of Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the then governor of Judah. There is no job or business that is too small. Just start it. The problem is not the size of the business. The problem is the vision. What can you see? If you can see it, even though you are starting small, it is going to happen. You need to see it [conceive it] to birth it. What you can see determines how you will respond.

God is saying there is no small work. Folks are quick to point to the days past when they were vice presidents of blue chip companies. They hold on so tightly to the past, it is almost impossible to take hold of the next thing. My question is, do you have any income right now and how do you intent to pay your bills and feed your family? Yes you once functioned as a vice president in a blue chip company but if being an office assistant is what you need to do right now then please do it. You may have to start from there right now but the truth is you will not end there.

The mistake a lot of people make is to think that where they start is where they will end. Not at all! It is just a start. Perhaps God just wants to see your heart. Or maybe He wants to take you through a path that will ensure you do not forget God. Just start from where you are. It has nothing to do with your pedigree. If I need to work as a labourer just to feed my family, I will! The reason why a lot of men are not working is because their wives are still feeding them. That wife is disobeying Scripture. The Bible says, “A man that will not work should not eat.” This is not an attempt to cause problems in your family but rather a call to obey the Word of God. Let the man go and work!

Prayer:  Father, I am confident that You have greatness in Your plan for me, so I too will rejoice to see the work begin, in Jesus Name. Amen!
